Waxberries

Waxberries

Today’s image: currently in season in this area of the world are waxberries, or 杨梅 in Chinese. I bought these from a sidewalk vendor who sells them by the bowl: a large bowl is about 1 kilogram and cost me 20 yuan (that’s about $3 USD). These fruits are incredibly juicy and taste like a mixture of cherry and raspberry. They can range from very sweet to quite tart. The darker, the sweeter. They also leave a very floral aftertaste in one’s mouth.
